Why I Chose Cold-Processed Soaps (and Why You Might Too)

Life gets busy. Between work deadlines, family responsibilities, and just trying to keep up with the day-to-day, skincare often feels like a luxury. I don’t know about you, but I’ve lost count of how many times I stepped out of the shower, promised myself I’d put on lotion, and then immediately got distracted by the next thing on my list. Within an hour my skin would start to feel tight, itchy, and uncomfortable.

For years, I turned to store-bought soaps that claimed to be “hydrating” or “soothing.” The “hydrating” bars sometimes made my skin feel soft—but only for a short while. Within an hour or so, the dryness came back stronger. And the ones that were marketed for irritated, acne-prone skin? They often left me even drier and more uncomfortable.

That’s when I realized: these products were full of chemicals and detergents designed for shelf life, not for actual skin health.

The Turning Point

I didn’t want a ten-step skincare routine. I wanted a soap that actually worked—that left my skin feeling nourished and comfortable without needing three other products to make up for it.

That’s when I started exploring handmade soaps. The difference was immediate: my skin felt calmer, softer, and, importantly, it was okay even if I skipped moisturizing afterward. Don’t get me wrong—I still recommend moisturizing, and it’s definitely good for skin health. But let’s be real: we all forget sometimes, and it was such a relief to know my skin could still feel comfortable when I did.

I tried many soaps from natural stores, and eventually thought—why not make them myself?

I shared this idea with my sister, who has a background in chemistry and deep knowledge of formulations. Together, we decided to create soaps using the cold-process method, which allows natural oils and butters to retain their powerful skin-loving properties. That’s how Sisters & Lab was born.

Why Cold-Processed?

Unlike store-bought soaps that are often made with detergents, fillers, and unpronounceable chemicals, cold-processed soaps are made slowly and thoughtfully. This process keeps all the good stuff intact—like glycerin, which helps your skin hold on to moisture.

We use rich, nourishing oils and butters such as:

  • Coconut oil for cleansing and soft lather

  • Olive oil for gentle hydration

  • Castor oil for creaminess and moisture retention

  • Shea & cocoa butters for deep nourishment

And one more thing that was really important to us: we don’t use palm oil. Palm oil production is one of the leading drivers of deforestation and habitat loss. We wanted our brand to reflect who we are—not just as soap makers, but as people who try to be better citizens of the world. By staying palm-oil-free and choosing sustainable ingredients, we hope to protect the planet while creating products that care for your skin.

A Simple Swap for Busy Lives

Most of us don’t have time for a complicated skincare routine. That’s the beauty of cold-processed soaps: they do the multitasking for you. When your soap is packed with natural hydration and nutrients, you don’t always need to add extra steps. One small change—switching your soap—can make a big difference for your skin.

For me, it means I can step out of the shower, get dressed, and go enjoy time with my family without worrying that my skin will start to feel dry or tight in an hour.

More Than Just Soap

This brand isn’t just about making soap—it’s about creating little rituals of care that fit into real life. Our soaps are designed to hydrate as they cleanse, to be simple and effective, and to leave your skin feeling supported, not stripped.

At the same time, it’s about leaving the world better than we found it. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword for us—it’s the core of what we do. From our ingredients to our packaging, we want Sisters & Lab to reflect our values of care, responsibility, and love for the planet.

Because at the end of the day, skincare doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to work—for you, and for the world we live in.

✨ Sisters & Lab soaps are where simplicity meets science, self-care meets real life, and sustainability meets skincare.
